A simple salad dressing prepared with good wine vinegar, oil, salt, pepper, and fresh green herbs, also referred to as a vinaigrette. Occasionally, mustard is added and sometimes garlic. The traditional French dressing is unlike the red-orange Americanized version, which is a creamy mixture containing sugar and tomato flavorings.
