A chicken that is allowed to roam without being confined and feeds on naturally grown crops, consuming only a vegetarian diet. This is unlike most commercially raised chickens, which are confined to feed lots where the food consumed is commercially produced. Free Range chickens are not given antibiotics to keep them from being exposed to unwanted chemicals. Many people like the flavor of free-range chickens, however, their quality can vary widely and they are generally more expensive.
